Jerry Reuss spent nine seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but his place in the club’s history is especially tied to an outstanding stretch in the early 1980s. Reuss went 18-6 with a 2.51 ERA in 1980, leading the National League with six shutouts and finishing second in the Cy Young Award voting. On June 27 of that year, he also threw a no-hitter against the San Francisco Giants, coming within a defensive error of a perfect game. His performance carried into 1981, when he posted a 2.30 ERA and helped the Dodgers win the World Series over the New York Yankees.
